06/03/2007 :: Cooperativa vai quadruplicar produção de energia

 

The Santa Maria Electric Energy Cooperative ((Cooperativa de Energia Elétrica de Santa Maria (CEESAM)), in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil is putting its final touches to realize a long standing dream. According to Marcos Pershun, president of CEESAM, they will be the first cooperative in the Itajai river valley to furnish part of its energy to CELESC, the state power utility. In the month of April, 2007, they generated close to 20 megawatts of energy.

According to Cláudio Varella, a CELESC engineer, the cooperative has the capacity to supply about 70% of the population of Benedito Novo (9578 inhabitants) and Doutor Pedrinho ( 3145 inhabitants)“With electric bills 35% lower than CELESC and with direct community involvement, we were abel to attract companies to the region, as well as benefitting the local farmers”, says Pershun. GRAMEYER was the chosen company to help turn the more thatn 40 years of efforts of the farmers into reality. GRAMEYER was contracted by the coopertive and was responsible for all supplying all the electrical systems of the Small Hydroelectric Plant (SHP).
